John Fainter serves as the longtime president and CEO of the Association of Electric Companies of Texas Inc., or AECT, which is the trade organization and advocacy group of electric companies in Texas.

Fainter helped oversee the 1999 restructuring of the state's electric laws to allow more competition and deregulation and he is now seeing the domestic shale boom occur at a time of increasing regulations on power plants. The association includes NRG Energy Inc. (NYSE: NRG), CenterPoint Energy Inc. (NYSE: CNP), TXU Energy, Entergy Corp. (NYSE: ETR) and several more.

What is your take on the rapid ongoing growth in the region?
