Natural-Gas Supplies Bulge, Pressuring Prices

Natural-gas inventories are falling less than expected this winter, and analysts said a capacity crunch could send already-beaten-down natural-gas prices even lower. The situation also is raising concerns that the U.S. could run out of places to store the fuel later this year.

Natural gas held in storage by companies fell just 76 billion cubic feet, to 3.5 trillion cubic feet, in the week ending Dec. 30, the Department of Energy reported this week. The five-year average for the week is a decline of 106 billion cubic feet.
